Compared to the exploitative and brutal policies of the totalitarian, monarchy , military and other forms of government, democracy is more liberal and gives the people a chance to express themselves. The vast population of today is educated and knows about its rights and duties and needs a broad policy to prosper. Democracy is a government of the people, by the people and for the people. That is why we see that democracy has been adopted in most countries in the past centuries. The reasons for being suitable are :

1. Provides for self government at the grass root level

2. Provides for healthy competition

3. Representatives are accountable to the public

4. Rule of law prevails

5, Real power is vested in the hands of the masses
