In first stanza , he depicts the growth of the tree by consuming nutrients from earth and absorbing sunlight, air and water.

In second stanza, he paints a picture of bleeding bark and tree's relentless attempts to survive, one can visualize the green twoge freshly sprouting and branches expanding thus giving life to the tree again.

Line 13 : bleeding bark . Here the tree has been portrayed as a human being and when is hacked and chopped, it bleeds like human.

Line 8 : leprous hide. Here the bark of the tree which is disfigured and scaly appears as if it is diseased and has been compared to leper's skin with light and dark patches on it.
