The person in the above picture is Rani Lakshmi Bai or Jhansi ki Rani .

She was fighting against British on the Revolt of 1857 because she was not allowed to adopt the heir to the throne under the policy of Doctorine of Lapse .She was leading the Revolt in the area of Kanpur and Gwalior.

She was killed in the Revolt
