Solution- A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances. examples-coke , salt solution, lemonade, soda water.

There are three forms of solution:

Liquid solutions: lemonade, salt solution.

Solid solutions: alloy

Gaseous solutions: air

Components of solution:

Solvent

Solute

Solvent: The component of a solution that dissolve the other component in it is called solvent. It is present in large amount.

Solute: the component of a solution that is dissolved in the solvent is called solute. It is present in lesser quantity.

Examples-

Tincture of iodine, is a solution of iodine in alcohol. In this solution, the solute(present in small amount) is solid iodine and the solvent(present in large amount) is liquid alcohol.

Salt solution, in this solution salt is the solute and water is the solvent.

air is a homogeneous mixture of a number of gases.

In ORS solution , salt and sugar are less so they are solute and water is more so it is solvent.

Properties of solution:-

A solution is stable. It means the solute particles do not settle down when left undisturbed and can not be separated from the mixture.

A solution is a homogeneous mixture.

The particles of a solution can not be seen by naked eyes .

The size of the particles are smaller than 1nano meter.

The path of light is not visible in a solution.
