Whenever a current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field it experiences force. The relationship between these three is stated by Fleming lef hand thumb rule .To understand the rule the thumb the middle finger and the index fingers are placed perpendicular to each other.

Imagine a current carrying conductor is placed in between a horse shoe magnet . This magnet produces some magnetic field which will be in the direction indicated by the index finger. The current passing through the conductor will be in the direction of the middle finger and the conductor experiences a force indicated in the direction of the thumb. In case the poles magnet were reversed the applied force will also be in reversed direction
