Answer:

1. "The sea is a hungry dog." - Comparing two things without "like" or "as", this is a METAPHOR.

2. "I looked the sizzling sun straight in the eye. He put on dark glasses." - (I'm assuming that the another person put on dark glasses?) The sun does not have eyes so it is using PERSONIFICATION as it compares human qualities with an inhuman thing. Also, sizzling can be ONOMATOPOEIA as it is a sound word.

3. "Overnight the roof grew its own layer of snow." - A roof cannot grow its own snow, so it is using PERSONIFICATION to show that the roof seemed to have a lot of snow overnight as if it grew.

4. "The snow covered the world like a white, woolly blanket." - It uses "like" to compare two things; the snow and the white, woolly blanket, so this is SIMILE. It can also be ALLITERATION as the letter 'w' is repeated in the words "world", "white", and "woolly".

5. "Late last night I heard the screen door slam." - Slam is a sound word as it describes the type of sound the action is making, so this should be  ONOMATOPOEIA.  It can also be ALLITERATION as letter 'l' and 's' are repeated in the words "late" "last" and "screen" "slam".

6. "The face in the icicle crusted mask was pale as death." - This sentence uses "as" to compare two things like the face and death. So this is SIMILE.
