A) Na2SO4+ Bacl2 —> BaSO4 + 2NaCl - double displacement reaction
B)Fe+ CuSO4 —> FeSO4 + Cu - displacement reaction
C) 2H2 + O2 —> 2H2O - combination reaction

Correct Question

Identify the type of reaction in the following examples and also balance them

a) Na2SO4 (aq) + BaCl2 (aq) → BaSO4 (s) + NaCl (aq)

b) Fe (s) + CuSO4 (aq) → FeSO4 (aq) + Cu (s)

c) H2 (g) + O2 (g) → H2O

Answer

a) \sf{Na_2SO_4(aq)+BaCl_2(aq)\:\rightarrow\:BaSO_4(s)+2NaCl(aq)}

Double displacement reaction takes place because the two elements displaces each other from it's compound, or exchange of ions takes place (displacing each other).

It is also known as Precipitation reaction because formation of precipitate takes place.

b) \sf{Fe(s)+CuSO_4(aq)\:\rightarrow\:FeSO_4(aq)+Cu(s)}

Here, Fe is more reactive element which displaces less reactive element CuSO4 from it's aqueous solution. So, given reaction is Displacement reaction.

c) \sf{2H_2(g)+O_2(g)\:\rightarrow\:2H_2O(g)}

Above reaction is Combination reaction. Here, two or more reactants combine together to form a single product.
