About simple, compound and complex sentence:
- There are three types of sentences -simple, compound and complex.
- Simple sentences are those with one subject and and one predicate. there may be phrase, but there is just one independent clause.
- Complex sentences are those which have one independent/ main clause and atleast one dependent/ subordinate clause, usually joined by a conjunction.
- Compound sentences are those which have atleast two independent clauses in their sentences.
- Independent clause means a group of words that have a complete meaning and can stand on its own.
- Dependent clause means a group of words where we have a noun and a verb, but cannot have a complete meaning.
- In Q1, we have two independent clauses :' I forgot my jacket' and 'so I ...'. Thus it is a compound sentence.
- In Q2, we have one independent and one dependent clause: 'My ... night' and 'because ...me'. So it is a complex sentence.
- In Q3, we have one subject and one predicate. So it is a simple sentence.
- In Q4, there are two independent clauses: '. The tiny... walk' and 'but... tired'. Thus it is a compound sentence.
