Distance, speed and time qualify as scalar quantities as they are magnitude based quantities that have no specific direction associated with them. You never say that it’s been 20 seconds north because time just isn’t a vector quantity.

Displacement and velocity qualify as vector quantities as they have a direction associated with them. Velocity tells us about the speed of a body in a particular direction, displacement also involves direction as it tells us the distance covered by a body in a particular direction.
