Answer:

The Patriot, written by Robert Browning is a dramatic monologue where the main

character is the only one talking to himself in a dramatic manner.

It is a sad commentary on the rise and fall of heroes as a result of whimsical crowd

mentality.

The poem describes the fate of a hero, rather all heroes. Every hero tries to do his best,

but it is ironic that his achievements are soon forgotten.

Sometimes he is treated very harshly.

The Patriot in the poem had heroic achievements a year ago. He was given a very warm

welcome on his return. But just a year after he has fallen in esteem. He is arrested and is

being taken to the gallows. People now simply hate him. Despite his fall, he is optimistic.

He feels that God will reward him in heaven.
