Identifying Central Issues more than 100 years after death of Akbar, the Mughal Empire began to fall apart. The main reasons for these downfall were as follows:

Causes for the downfall of Mughal Empire:

Weak rulers : Aurangazeb was the last powerful ruler of Mughal Empire. After the death of Aurangazeb, there was a war of succession among his sons. They were made as puppets by the Sayyid brothers. These weak rulers couldn't rule the empire effectively and efficiently.

Policies of Aurangazeb: Aurangazeb followed some strict policies. His 50 years rule was like torcher to the people of other religions. He imposed strict laws on the other religions. Due to which people started opposing him.

Emergence of small kingdoms: During Aurangazeb's reign, many small kingdoms started to emerge due to the dissatisfaction from Aurangazeb. Hyderabad, Mysore, Bengal etc were some important kingdoms.

Foreign Invasions: The foreign Invasions is another major cause for the decline of Mughal Empire. The Persian ruler Nadir Shah invaded India and looted the Mughal Empire. He took away the famous Kohinoor diamond and the peacock throne. Later Ahmad Shah Abdali, Afgan ruler invaded India and looted India.
