Explanation:

Simple sentence has only one clause ,ie one finite verb.eg:He went to market.

Complex sentence has more than one clause, but one clause is independent of the other clause or clauses.eg: When he went to market, he bought fish.In this sentence, 'When he went to market' is dependent on the other clause. It can't stand alone as an independent sentence. But 'he bought fish' is an independent clause. It can stand alone as an independent sentence. Dependent clauses normally begin with conjunctions like when, what, where, how,if, because, that, as, though, till, before, after etc. In fact, these words make the sense of that clause incomplete , and thus make it depend on the other clause.

Compound sentence has more than one independent clause, normally joined by conjunctions like 'and, but, or' etc.If we remove these conjunctions, each clause can stand as a separate sentence.
