A cation is a positively charged ion that has lesser number of electrons as compared to protons.Since they are positive in nature they move towards the negatively charged cathode during electrolysis.

Here the cations are: Calcium ion(Ca2+), Barium ( Ba2+), Zinc ( Zn2+), Lead (Pb2+),Ferric( Fe3+) ions.

Anions,on the other hand, are negatively charged ions that have an excess of electrons( hence negative) . During electrolysis they move towards the positive terminal,i.e. anode.

Here the anions are: Chlorine( Cl-) , Sulphide ( S2-) and nitrate( NO3-) ions.
