"In the poem, 'The Idiot Box', the poet symbolically and metaphorically uses the word Idiot Box for the Television. Though indirectly, the poet rather refers to people who watch television and who are addicted to it as “Idiot Boxes”. It refers to the people who are weirdly attracted to television and are too much foolishly involved in the television and have a strange belief in it.
The poet believes that idle spending of too much of time in television solves no purpose and reaps no result, and it rather kills the complete time. People should be more productive and should channelize it to make proper use of energy. The objective of the poem by using this term as a metaphor is to let the reality of wastage of time hit people sharp and make them change their ways. It criticizes the very addiction to television amongst people."
