Ie1 of alkaline earth metal is very low than their ie2.Why?

ionization energy of metals is the amount of energy required to remove an electron and gain cation form in the ground state
the middle can easily lose their first electron but after losing first electron there effective nuclear charge increases due to which electrons are highly attached to the protons and therefore it is difficult to remove second electron and energy is required for it
