here X=1/2
 x²+ Kx - 5/4 =0
4 x²+ 4Kx - 5=0 ..........(i)
 putting the value of x in the above eqn (i) we  get
4(1/2)² + 4K(1/2) -5 = 0
1+2K - 5 =0
2K = 4
K = 2
Hope this helps you

p(x)=x²+kx-5/4
(1/2)²+k*1/2-5/4=0
1/4+k/2-5/4=0
1/4-5/4+k/2=0
-4/4+k/2=0
-1+k/2=0
k/2=1
k=2
