Let the unknown number be x.

Then, by condition,

5 (x - 1/3) = 45

=> 5x - 5/3 = 45

=> 5x = 45 + 5/3

=> 5x = (135+5)/3

=> 5x = 140/3

=> 15x = 140

=> x = 140/15 = 28/3 [REQUIRED ANSWER]
