let the number =x
1/3 of a number = x/3
2/7 of the number = 2x/7
given
1/3 of a number exceeds its 2/7 by 1

x/3 - 2x/7 =1
do the lcm
lcm = 3*7 =21

(7x-6x)/21 =1
⇒x/21 =1
∴ x= 21
required number = x =21

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

1/3 of a number exceeds 2/7 of the same number by one, find the number.

Solution:

(1/3)x = (2/7)x + 1

(1/3 - 2/7)x = 1

(7 - 6)x/21 = 1

x/21 = 1

x = 21
