the coordinates of the centroid of the triangle is

 = ( \frac{1 + 2 + c {}^{2} }{3} \:  . \:  \frac{a + b - 3}{3} )

Now to be lied on the X axis the ordinate would be zero....

therefore...

a+b-3=0

=>a+b=3
