p(x) = x²-7x-8
Zero = -1
x = -1
x+1 = 0
x+1 is a factor of x²-7x-8
we divide
x²-7x-8 by x+1
=
x²-7x-8/x+1
= x-8
x-8 = 0
x = 8

Therefore, the zeroes of
x²-7x-8 are -1 and 8
