Step-by-step explanation:

  • put the value of x
  • then u get a-3a+3-1=0
  • so 2a=2
  • therefore a=1

Given :

  • p(x) = ax² - 3(a-1)x - 1
  • 1 is zero of above polynomial

To find :

Value of a

Procedure :

  • For a given , zero of polynomial (here 1) , value of p(x) { here p(1) } = 0
  • Put p(x) = 0 , then solve for a

Solution :

p(1) = a(1²) - 3(a-1)×1 - 1

also , p(1) = 0

➠ 0 = a - 3(a-1) - 1

➠ 0 = a - 3a + 3 - 1

➠ 0 = 2 - 2a

➠ 2a = 2

➠ a = (2/2)

a = 1

ANSWER :

a = 1
