Putting x=-1
ax³-x²+x+4=0
a(-1)³-(-1)²+(-1)+4=0
a(-1)-(1)-1+4=0
-a-2+4=0
a=2

Given:

(-1) is a zero of the polynomial p(x)= ax3- x2+x+4

To find:

The value of a

Solution:

We can find the solution by following a few steps-

We know that the zero of a polynomial makes the value of the polynomial zero.

So, p(-1)=0

The polynomial given is

a {x}^{3}  -  {x}^{2}  + x + 4

On substituting x as -1, we get

a ({ - 1})^{3}  - ( { - 1})^{2}  + ( - 1) + 4 = 0

( - 1)a - 1 - 1 + 4 = 0

 - a - 2 + 4 = 0

a = 2

Therefore, the value of a is 2.
