Answer:

the fraction is 2/3

  1. x/y+1=1/2 y=2x-1
  2. x+1/y=1 y=x+1

by equating 1 and 2

will get x=2

y=3

where x was numerator and y was denominator

Given :-

  • If 1 is added to the denominator of a fraction, the fraction becomes 1/2.if 1 is added to the numerator of the fraction, the fraction becomes 1 .

To find :-

  • Required fraction

Solution :-

Let the required fraction be x/y

According to the question

1 is added to the denominator of a fraction, the fraction becomes 1/2.

  • x/y + 1 = 1/2

→ 2x = y + 1

→ 2x - 1 = y

→ y = 2x - 1 -----(i)

1 is added to the numerator of the fraction, the fraction becomes 1.

  • x + 1/y = 1

→ x + 1 = y

→ x + 1 = 2x - 1 (using i)

→ 1 + 1 = 2x - x

→ x = 2

Now, put the value of x in equation (i)

→ y = 2x - 1

→ y = 2 × 2 - 1

→ y = 4 - 1

→ y = 3

Hence,

  • Required fraction
  • x/y = 2/3
