let \: the \: fraction \: be \:  \frac{ x}{y} . \\ according \: to \:question \\  \frac{x + 1}{y}  =  \frac{1}{2} ..........eq(i) \\ and \:  \\  \frac{x}{y + 1}  =  \frac{1}{3}..........eq(ii) \\ from \: eq(i) \\ 2x + 2 = y \\ 2x - y =  - 2.........(1) \\ from \: eq(ii)  \\ 3x = y + 1 \\ x =  \frac{y + 1}{3}  \\ putting \: this \: value \: of \: x \: in \: (1) \\ 2( \frac{y + 1}{3} ) - y =  - 2 \\ 2y + 2 - 3y =  - 6 \\  - y =  - 6 - 2 \\ y = 8 \\ x =  \frac{y + 1}{3}  =  \frac{8 + 1}{3}  \\ x = 3 \\ the \: fraction \: is \:  \frac{3}{8}
