Let the original fraction be x/y
X+1/y=1/2
X/y+1=1/3
2x+2=y
2x-y=-2
3x=y+1
3x-y=1
-2x+y=2
X=3
Y=3*3-1=9-1=8
Original fraction: 3/8

AAnswer :

The required fraction is 3/8

Given :

If 1 is added to the numerator of a certain fraction its value becomes 1/2

If 1 is added to its denominator the fraction becomes 1/3

To Find :

The fraction

Solution :

Let us consider the numerator be x and denominator be y

Therefore, the fraction is : x/y

Now according to question

y = 2x +2

Again by the question we have :

3x = y + 1

Again putting the value of y from (1) in (2)

3x - 2x = 3

x= 3

Now using the value of x in in (1)

y = 6 + 2 = 8

Thus the fraction is :

3/8
