Answer:
Since 1 is zero of the polynomial
P(x) =ax^2 - 3(a-1)x -1
Then by the Remainder Theorem
P(1)= 0
So
a - 3(a-1)-1 = 0
a-3a+3-1 = 0
-2a = - 2
a = 1
