If 10 , 13 , 15 , 18 , a + 1 , a + 3 , 30 , 32 , 35 , 41 are ten observations in an ascending
order with median 24.Find the value of a .

Given observations are 10, 13 , 15 ,18 ,a + 1 ,

a + 3 , 30 , 32 , 35 , 41

number of observations ( n ) = 10 [ even ]

median = average ( n/2, n/2 + 1 )th terms

= Ave ( 5th , 6th ) terms

= ( a + 1 + a + 3 )/2

= ( 2a + 4 )/2

= a + 2 ----( 1 )

median = 24 ------( 2 ) given

from ( 1 ) & ( 2 ) , we get

a + 2 = 24

a = 22
