When 100 is increased by 40%, 100+ 40% of 100 = 140  When decreased by 40%, 140-40% of 140 = 86  So, result = 86

40% of 100 is 40.
100 is increased by 40%.
Thus, the result will be = 100 + 40 = 140

Now, the result of the previous calculation is decreased by 40%.

The decrease (x) can be calculated as below :-
Percentage = (Decrease/Total) × 100
Thus, 40 = (x/140) × 100
Thus, x = (40 × 140) /100
Thus, x = 56

Thus, 56 is decreased from 140.
Hence, the resultant number will be (140 - 56) = 84
