Solution:-

Number of men and the number of days taken by them to finish the work are inversely proportional.

Let the number of men needed to finish the work in 6 days be x.

Then 12:x = 6:8

Product of extremes = product of means

6x =12×8

=> x = \cancel{12}^{2}×\sf \dfrac{8}{\cancel 6 }= 16

Answer:

16 men

Given :

  • 12 men dig a pond in 8 days
  • find how many man dig it in 6 days

Explanation :

Pond digged by the men in one day = 1/8

Pond digged by one men in one day = 1/8 × 1/12 = 1/96

Therefore , to complete in 6 days

Let the total number of men be x

So , 1/6 = x × 1/96

x = 96/6

x = 16

Therefore, total number of men is = 16
