12x + 17y = 53...(1) ×12

17x + 12y = 63....(2) ×17

then,

144x + 204y = 636

289x + 204y = 1071

or, x = 3

another, from (1) no ,

(12×3) + 17y = 53

or, 17y = 17

or, y = 1

Now ,

(x+y) = (3+1)= 4
