Let the number be 'x'.

According to the question;

$14 - 6x= 4(3 - x)$

$14 - 6x = 12 - 4x$

$- 6x + 4x = 12 - 14$

$2x = 2$

$x = \cancel{\frac{2}{2} }$

$x = 1$
