Smallest amount received is ₹ 100/3 or about  ₹ 33.33 if ₹ 150 is distributed amongst three children in the ratio 2:3:4

Given:

  • ₹ 150 is distributed amongst three children in the ratio 2:3:4

To Find:

  • the smallest amount received

Solution:

Step 1:

Assume that Amount receives are 2x, 3x and 4x as ratio is 2 : 3 : 4

Step 2:

Add all amounts and equate with 150  and solve for x

2x + 3x + 4x = 150

=> 9x = 150

=> 3x = 50   ( Divide both sides by 3)

=> x = 50/3  ( Divide both sides by 3)

Step 3:

2x is smallest hence find value of 2x by substituting x = 50/3

2x  = 2(50/3)

= 100/3

≈ 33.33

Hence Smallest amount received is ₹ 100/3 or about  ₹ 33.33
