As we know that,

If there will be a high number of of men the job will be done in less time.

This is known as the case of inverse proportion.

So, in the inverse proportion :

→ x1 × y1 = x² × y2

→ 17 × 42 = x × 32

→ x = 714/32

→ x = 22.31

So, because it's not a whole number, by rounding off we will get x = 22.

Therefore, the number of men required will be 22.
