FINAL ANSWER:-

height = 15 m

GIVEN:-

hypotenuse = 17 m

base = 8 m

TO FIND:-

height of the wall [perpendicular]

FORMULA USED:-

(H)²=(B)²+(P)²

SOLUTION:-

(H)²=(B)²+(P)²

(17)²=(8)²+(P)²

289=64+(P)²

(P)²=289-64

(P)²=225

P=\sqrt{225}

P=15 m

height = 15 m

Given,

  • Length of the bamboo = 17 m
  • Distance of the bamboo from the wall = 8 m

To find,

  • Height of the wall

Solution,

If 17m long bamboo is placed 8m away from wall then the height of the wall is 15 m.

We can simply find the height of the wall by using the Pythagoras theorem,

          (H)^2 = (B)^2 +(P)^2      (1)

where H is the length of the bamboo, B is the distance of the bamboo from the wall, and P is the height of the wall

Now, substituting the values in the (1), we get

            (17)^2 = (8)^2 +(P)^2

             289 = 64 + (P)^2

             289-64 = (P)^2

               225 = (P)^2

               15 = P

Hence, if 17m long bamboo is placed 8m away from the wall then the height of the wall is 15 m.
