Mole fraction of water = 0.95 and Mole fraction of sulphuric acid = 0.047

Explanation:

Mole fraction of a component is the ration of number of moles of that component to the total number of moles in the solution.

  • Weight of H_2SO_4 = 196 g
  • Molecular weight of H_2SO_4 = 1 \times2 + 32 + 16 \times 4 =2+32+64=98
  • Weight of water = 720 g
  • Molecular weight of water = 1 \times 2+16=18
  • Number\, of\, moles=\frac{Weight}{Moleculatr\,weight}
  • \therefore No.\,of\,moles\,of\,H_2SO_4=\frac{196}{98} =2\\No.\,of\,moles\,of\,water=\frac{720}{18} =40
  • Mole\,fraction\,of\,H_2SO_4=\frac{2}{2+40} =\frac{2}{42} =0.047
  • Mole\,fraction\,of\,water=\frac{40}{2+40} =\frac{40}{42} =0.95
