value of x - y is 3 if 19x - 17y= 55 and 17x – 19y=53

Given:

  • 19x - 17y= 55     Eq1
  • 17x – 19y=53     Eq1

To Find:

  • value of x - y

Solution:

Step 1:

Add Eq1 and Eq2

19x - 17y + 17x - 19y = 55 + 53

Step 2:

Combine like terms

19x + 17x - 17y - 19y = 55 + 53

=> 36x - 36y  = 108

Step 3:

Divide both sides by 36

x -  y  = 3

Value of x - y is 3
