If 2+2x is a factor of p(x), then
2+2x=0.
i.e.,2x = -2
x = -1
Now putting the value of x in the equation,
3x+2x+ax+x = 8
3(-1)+2(-1)+a(-1)+(-1) =8
-3-2-a-1 =8
-6-a =8
-a = 8+6=14
Thus, a = -14.

Hope it helps
