If -2 is a root of the equation x^2+px-6=0 and the equation x^2-px+q=0 has equal roots,find the value of p and q

x^2 + px - 6 = 0                      

put x = -2

(-2)^2 + p(-2) - 6 = 0

4 + 2p - 6 =0

2p = 2

p = 1

now x^2 - px + q = 0

put x = -2 and p =1

(-2)^2 - (1)(-2) + q = 0

4 + 2 + q = 0

q = -6
