If 2 is added to a certain number, the result is the same as would be obtained it twie

Let X be the number.

“If two is added to the number” X+2

”is the same as” =

“twice the number was subtracted from 32” 32–2X. Because twice a number is 2X. And you are subtracting it from 32

therefore, X+2=32–2X

First, subtract 2 from both sides

X=30–2X

next, add 2X to both sides (because the opposite of -2X is +2X)

3X=30

finally, divide both sides by 3

x=10
