If 2 is added to both the numerator and denominator of a given fraction it

becomes 8/11

. If 3 is subtracted from the fraction it becomes 2/5

then if we add 2 to both numerator and denominator

then

x+2/y+2=8/11 ....i

and according to next line

x/y -3 =2/5.....ii

then equation i

11x+22 =8y+16

11x-8y = -6......(1)

and according to ii equation

x/y = 2/5 +3

x/y = 17/5

5x = 17y

5x-17y = 0.....(2)

solving eq. 1 and 2

5[(11x-8y)=6]-11[5x-17y=0]

55x-40y -55x+187y=6

187y-40y=6

147y=6

y=6/147
