*Question:-

If 2 < x < 4 and 3 < y < 7, what is the largest integer value of x +y?

*Answer:-

As 2 < x < 4 , we can have x as close to 4 as possible but not 4

Simmilarly as 3 < y < 7 , we can have y as close to 7 as possible but not 7

Therefore x + y can be as close tp 4 + 7 = 11 as possible but not 11

And the largest integral value of x + y can be 10 but not 11

And similarly minmum possible value of x + y is as close to 2 + 3 = 5 but not 5 i.e. it will be always above 5. So it can be 6 , largest possible integral value is still 10 .

Hence the answer is,

maximum → 10

and

minimum → 6
