Given info : 2 × 10⁹ electrons are transferred from a glass rod to a piece of silk by rubbing.
To find : the net charges on both object after rubbing are ..
solution : no of electrons transferred from a glass rod to a piece of silk , n = 2 × 10⁹
we know,
the charge on each electron is e = 1.6 × 10⁻¹⁹ C.
∴ total charge of 2 × 10⁹ electrons , Q = ne
= 2 × 10⁹ × 1.6 × 10⁻¹⁹ = 3.2 × 10⁻¹⁰ C
therefore the net charge on the glass rod is +3.2 × 10⁻¹⁰ C [positive because electrons are removed from it ] and the net charge on the piece of silk is -3.2 × 10⁻¹⁰ C [negative because electrons are added into it]
