2x + y = 32 ....(i)

2x - y = 4 ....(ii)

On adding both the equations ,

We get

4x = 36

x = 36/4

x = 9

On putting the values of x in equation for( i)

2*9 + y = 32

18 + y = 32

y = 32 - 18

y =14

So x = 9

y =14

So x ^2 + y ^2,= 9^2 + 14^2

= 81 + 196

= 277

Hope this will help you .....
