2x + y = 32 ....(i)
2x - y = 4 ....(ii)
On adding both the equations ,
We get
4x = 36
x = 36/4
x = 9
On putting the values of x in equation for( i)
2*9 + y = 32
18 + y = 32
y = 32 - 18
y =14
So x = 9
y =14
So x ^2 + y ^2,= 9^2 + 14^2
= 81 + 196
= 277
