20% of 50=10 and 15% of x is 15x/100. Then according to question 15x/100=10-4 then 15x =600. This implies x=600/15. So x=40. Required answer

Let the number be x

According to the given condition

20% of 50 - 15% of x = 4

\dfrac{20}{100} × 50 - \dfrac{15}{100} × x = 4

\dfrac{1}{5} × 50 - \dfrac{3}{20} × x = 4

☛ 10 - \dfrac{3x}{20} = 4

\dfrac{200 - 3x}{20} = 4

☛ 200 - 3x = 4 × 20

☛ 200 - 3x = 80

☛ 200 - 80 = 3x

☛ 3x = 120

∴ x = 40

∴ The number is \underline{\underline{\textsf{40}}}

damodar93: 20/100 is not equal to 1/50
