Given:

1) 240 litres of milk containing 8% fat.

2) 160 litres of milk containing 15% fat.

To Find:

Percentage of fat in the mixture.

Solution:

1) 240 litres of milk containing 8% fat.

= 240 × \frac{8}{100}

= 240 × \frac{2}{25}

= \frac{480}{25}

= \frac{96}{5}

∴ 19.2 litres of fat is present in 240 litres of milk.

2) 160 litre milk containing 15% fat.

= 160 × \frac{15}{100}

= 2 × \frac{15}{5}

= \frac{30}{5}

= 6

∴ 6 litres of fat is present in 160 litres of milk.

Mixing both the milk :

= 240 + 160

= 400 litres

Fat present in 400 L of milk is :

= \frac{96}{5} + 5/1

= \frac{96 + 25}{5}

= \frac{121}{5}

Percentage of fat in mixed milk :

=  \frac{121}{5} × \frac{1}{4}

= \frac{121}{20}

= 6.05 %

∴ 6.05% of fat is present in the mixture.
