SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • 2a + 4b = 5

  • a is equal to three times b

TO DETERMINE

The value of 3a

EVALUATION

Here it is given that

2a + 4b = 5

Again a is equal to three times b

∴ a = 3b

So above gives

2a + 4b = 5

 \sf{ \implies \: (2 \times 3b) + 4b = 5}

 \sf{ \implies \: 6b+ 4b = 5}

 \sf{ \implies \:10b = 5}

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \:b =  \frac{5}{10} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ \implies \:b =  \frac{1}{2} }

∴ a = 3b

 \displaystyle \sf{  =3 \times   \frac{1}{2} }

 \displaystyle \sf{  = \frac{3}{2} }
