Answer:

x = (a + 1)/2

y = – 6

Note:

★ If two ordered pairs are equal , then the corresponding coordinate are also equal , ie ; if (x,y) = (a,b) then x=a and y=b .

Solution:

  • Given : (2x - 1 , -5) = (a , y + 1)
  • To find : x , y = ?

We have ;

(2x - 1 , -5) = (a , y + 1)

Thus,

=> 2x - 1 = a

=> 2x = a + 1

=> x = (a + 1)/2

Also,

=> -5 = y + 1

=> - 5 - 1 = y

=> - 6 = y

=> y = - 6

Hence,

x = (a + 1)/2 , 6
