(2x - 1) = 5

To begin with, if we added 1 to both sides, the equation would get smaller.

(2x - 1) + 1 = 5 + 1 -> 2x + 1 - 1 = 5 + 1 -> 2x = 6

Now what happens if we divide both sides by 2?

2x / 2 = 6 / 2 -> x = 3

Therefore x is equal to 3.

Hope this helps.
