2x + 1 is a factor so, if we put x = -1/2 then given polynomial = 0
so, 2(-1/2)² + a(-1/2) - 3 = 0
so, 1/2 - a/2 -3 = 0
a/2 = 1/2 - 3
a/2 = -5/2
so, a = -5
so, 2(-1/2)² + a(-1/2) - 3 = 0
so, 1/2 - a/2 -3 = 0
a/2 = 1/2 - 3
a/2 = -5/2
so, a = -5

given
2x + 1 is the factor
therefore
x = -1/2
on putting the value of x in given equation, we get
2x^2 + ax - 3 = 0
2 × (-1/2)^2 + a ×( -1/2 ) - 3 = 0
2 × 1/4 - a/2 - 3 = 0
1/2 - a/2 - 3 = 0
(1 - a - 6)/2 = 0
-a - 5 = 0
a = -5
