p(-1/2)=2(-1/2)²+a(-1/2)-1

p(-1/2)=1/2-a/2-1

p(-1/2)=-1/2-a/2

Sice p(-1/2)=0

0=-1/2-a/2

1/2=-a/2

2=-2a

a=-1

So the value of a is -1
